In the journey toward a truly affirming and inclusive church, Harmony is walking hand in hand with LGBTQ+ individuals, allies, and church leaders to make that vision a reality—one act of love and advocacy at a time.
Rooted in Advocacy and Inclusion
Harmony is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to amplifying Queer voices and supporting the ministerial needs of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities (SOGI) within Community of Christ. Their mission is simple and bold: advocacy, education, and resources that move the church toward full participation for all.
Full participation means that every person—regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity—can fully engage in the life of the church: sacraments, priesthood, leadership, and community.
Small Acts with Big Impact
Harmony believes that transformation is built on consistent, meaningful action. Their work includes:
- Hosting booths and offering support at local Pride events
- Creating and curating educational resources
- Providing opportunities for connection and dialogue
- Facilitating sacred spaces for Queer storytelling and truth-telling
They don’t speak for people—they amplify their voices. Harmony exists to make space, open doors, and help foster conversations that lead to a more just and compassionate church.
Tending the Soil, Literally
Since 2009, Harmony volunteers have lovingly cared for the flower pots surrounding the Community of Christ Temple in Independence, Missouri. This simple act has become a powerful symbol of Queer inclusion, growing beauty and presence right at the heart of the church’s spiritual center.
Even during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Harmony volunteers continued this sacred act—masked, distanced, and determined.
A Brighter Future Together
Harmony envisions a future where the full diversity of God’s people is not only accepted, but celebrated. Their ministry invites all of us to listen, learn, and act—so that Community of Christ can truly embody its enduring principles of worth, peace, and community.
